Project description
The project for the new Nautical Base at La Jonction in Geneva is conceived as an infrastructure in dialogue with the confluence of the Rhône and the Arve. The building is inserted as an axis marking the entrance to the new park, separating service areas to the east from the natural riverside zone to the west. A modular steel frame, composed of inclined beams and columns, defines the structure, accommodating a multifunctional box with storage, repair workshop, locker rooms and technical facilities on the ground floor, and training, conference rooms and a gym on the upper level.
The architectural language emphasises adaptability and sustainability: polycarbonate façades with integrated shading ensure transparency and thermal protection, while photovoltaic panels on the roof provide energy autonomy. Outdoor spaces are landscaped with native vegetation, a raised timber deck and direct ramps to the river, reinforcing the continuity between built form and natural setting. Designed for long-term flexibility, the base is both a civic landmark and an ecological infrastructure, capable of supporting the evolving needs of sport and community life along the Geneva waterfront.
